Community Outreach
Kenneth D. Wilson Jr. grew up in Dallas Texas. In kindergarten, He constantly played with blocks, Legos and was fascinated with sand. At the tender age of seven years old, the family VCR was broken and he took it apart as he was determined to fix it. Kenneth did not succeed but was thankful to have had the opportunity to try. It was then, he learned how to use a screwdriver.
Kenneth attended summer programs growing up, and started playing organized sports in middle school. Gravitating from pick up games to official sorts was challenging but he worked through it, after being cut from the basketball team in 7th grade.
He worked hard, playing basketball 3 times a day at the boys and girls club and went on to make the varsity basketball team his first year of high school.
In high school, Kenneth made a mistake but learned his lesson! He did not let that mistake define him, but went on to make several positive changes.
He was also passionate in track and field, being a five event athlete. He was ranked top 5 in his region in high jump Junior year and placed within the top 8 at the Texas state meet in long jump his senior year. That year, Kenneth beat two athletes that eventually went on to play football in the NFL. He took physics and was fascinated with the equation F=M*A and the gravitational effects felt on roller coasters.
Kenneth is a firm believer in the phrase, hard work pays off. He did not miss one day of basketball or track practice and went on to receive a full scholarship to attend Prairie View A&M university, where he studied Mechanical engineering. He worked hard to earn and keep his scholarship despite injuries, but still excelled in engineering by overcoming the time management challenges. Kenneth worked hard in both avenues and gained awards like the Dean’s list, university honors for earning a 3.8 GPA and made the all academic track and field team several years. By the time he graduated, he was a campus leader, serving as director of social action for Phi Beta SIGMA fraternity incorporated, winning an award for best seminars in the state of Texas, and he won 7 track & field conference medals: 3 bronze, 3 silver, and 1 gold along with 3 championships rings!
Kenneth is an international engineer, having worked in Derby, United Kingdom for Rolls Royce headquarters and he lived and worked in Berlin, Germany for Rolls Royce Deutschland for 2 month.
During his 3 years at Lockheed Martin, he worked on the ERAM program which provides the software to monitor planes in domestic airspace! This is so there will never be another September 11 or an airplane that goes missing like the Malaysian airliner. After serving in the US Navy as a fighting Seabee, he completed graduate school and received various offers to work for NSWC Crane. He accepted an offer to work as a manufacturing engineer in 2020.
